Day 1: October 17, 2022 - Sessions and Speakers
Session #1: Buying Business Meals or Catering Services at Virginia Tech - America To Go
Virginia Tech takes the safety of everyone associated with the university very seriously. Because of that commitment, Procurement chose to partner with America To Go to create the catering Punchout that is hosted in HokieMart. This partnership lets the university offer catering options to campus departments that meet university standards regarding health inspections and minimum insurance requirements.
Session #2: IT Policy and Standards Update & IT Security Awareness Program
The IT Security Office is responsible for outreach and training that ensures all employees, from Graduate Teaching Assistants to veteran database administrators, have the knowledge required to safeguard university sensitive data. Several trainings of different mediums and flavors are available to faculty and staff.
The instructor-led security awareness program is offered in-person or over remote collaboration tools and engages the audience in hands-on exercises that reinforce and test its core concepts in real time. A purely online security awareness program, powered by SANS, is hosted in the PageUp LMS system and has versions geared for new employees and for those looking to refresh their security awareness prowess on an annual basis.
The Virginia Tech Information Technology Security Office (ITSO) Interactive Phishing Awareness Training hones in on the prevalence of phishing attacks at the university and teaches employees how to spot and avoid social engineering attacks using specially-crafted emails that simulate real-world threats and test the effectiveness of our awareness training programs.
Looking to the future, ITSO will offer role-based training for system administrators, database administrators, data stewards, departmental management and others, with content geared toward ensuring those roles vital for data security have the core skill sets required to maintain its confidentiality, integrity and availability.
Day 2: October 31, 2022 - Sessions and Speakers
Session #1: Export Controls and Sanctions
Virginia Tech values and encourages international research, collaboration, and scholarship where global citizens engage with different ideas, beliefs, perspectives, experiences, identities, backgrounds and cultures. Virginia Tech is equally committed to meeting regulatory compliance in all areas of our education and research activities so that we are responsible stewards of public and private funding. John Talerico, the Director of Virginia Tech’s Office of Export and Secure Research Compliance, will be presenting an overview of some of these compliance areas, such as export controls, sanctions, undue foreign influence, international visitors, and international travel.
Session #2: Human Resources Systems Review
There are numerous key functions of human resources that include recruitment and onboarding, training and development, performance management, compensation, employee relations, benefits, and analytics in addition to several others. These functions all benefit from the use of human resource systems which provide streamlined processes, operational efficiency, reduced errors, data security, and more time for a customer-centric approach to our employees. This session will cover the human resource systems within the Division of Human Resources and how these systems benefit the Virginia Tech workforce.
Day 3: November 7, 2022 - Sessions and Speakers
Session #1: Internal Controls and Risk Mitigation
Internal controls and risk management is everyone’s job! I promise it isn’t as boring as it sounds. In this presentation, we will take a look at how important your role is in protecting Virginia Tech and its employees in your everyday work. We will review the role of ethics in internal control and how the Office of Audit, Risk, and Compliance can help you manage these critical processes.
Session #2: FINTRACS - Financial Review Tool
This session will cover the FINTRACS (FINancial TRansaction Analysis and Certification System) tool, which is the university’s new, required method for performing monthly fund financial reviews and certifications. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the system along with a demo and question and answer session.
